What is Corked Wine?
Corked wine is a term for a wine that has become contaminated with cork taint caused by the presence of a chemical compound called TCA (short for 2,4,6 - trichloroanisole).
TCA is a type of fungus that occurs naturally and mostly associated with the use of natural cork. When in contact, it causes the wine to become less flavourful.
While unpleasant to taste, you can detect a corked wine by noticing a smell and of damp, soggy, wet or rotten cardboard.
