Classification for Burgundy Wines
Classification for Burgundy Wines (from highest to lowest in overall quality):
Grand Cru- best single vineyards
Premier Cru (or 1er Cru)- single vineyards of exceptional quality
Villages- produced from grapes sourced from several vineyards in 1 of the 42 villages of Burgundy. The Village is name of the wine.
Regionals- created from a combination of vineyards from a variety of villages within Burgundy, as opposed to a single village, like village wines. Wines of this classification will be labelled as a wine of Bourgone.
The classification differs that from Bordeaux in that the vineyard land is classified in Burgundy whereas the classifications of Bordeaux are attributed to the Chateaus themselves.
